Brick homes shortlisted for RIBA London Awards

Two new bespoke brick homes, using bricks supplied by European Building Materials, have been shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards 2017.

Highgate House by Carmody Groake is beautifully constructed with Petersen D36 red brick used as the predominant surface material inside and out.

Reflecting the vernacular of this North London suburb, the loadbearing brick creates a strong physical presence and consistency, with massive abstract elevations, deep window reveals and brick lintels.

No 49 is a self-build detached house created on an urban infill site in Lewisham by Stephen Davies, one of the partners at 31/44 Architects.

Organised around 3 courtyards on a staggered, rectilinear footprint, the attractive grey facing brick was sourced by EBM from Belgium to complement the weathered London stocks of surrounding Victorian terraces.
