European Building Materials are delighted to learn that the Lanarkshire Maggie's Centre has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2015 RIBA Stirling Prize.
We supplied golden-white bricks in 9 different formats, plus special types for the corners and piers of the perforated walls which encircle the new cancer caring centre near Glasgow. The coal-fired bricks were manufactured in Denmark by Petersen Tegl.
We worked with architects Reiach & Hall who detailed the protective brick clad walls with perforations, creating a bright filigree pattern of golden-white walls and a haven of peace and tranquility.
EBM director Nic White said: "We are absolutely delighted to be associated with the aesthetics of this beautiful project and congratulate Reiach & Hall on their well-deserved nomination."
EBM also supplied bricks for the winner of the 2013 RIBA Stirling Prize, Astley Castle. Distinctive mellow bricks, again from Denmark, were used for the visionary renovation and conversion of this medieval castle in the Midlands.
