For a third year, European Building Materials is delighted to be associated with a project nominated for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize. In each case, we worked closely with the architects to create beautiful brickwork.
Caruso St John Architects' Newport Street Gallery has been shortlisted for the 2016 Stirling Prize, having already gained a RIBA National Award. The Vauxhall gallery showcases works from Damien Hirst's own art collection. The building is clad in pale red Gloucestershire brick, with immaculately crafted stairwells in white brickwork.
In 2015, Reiach & Hall's Maggie's centre in Lanarkshire was shortlisted for the Stirling prize. The cancer-caring centre near Glasgow features golden-white bricks in 9 different formats and a range of brick specials.
The architects detailed the protective brick-clad walls with perforations, creating a bright filigree pattern and a haven of peace and tranquility.
EBM supplied bricks for the winner of the 2013 RIBA Stirling Prize, Astley Castle. Architects Witherford Watson Mann used distinctive yellow bricks for the visionary restoration of this medieval castle in the Midlands, including the creation of a modernist house within an ancient shell.
